Internship Opportunities
Our interns have an integral role in each patient's care. The internship program at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital is a demanding one, as the caseload is high and many of the cases require intensive care and monitoring. There will be three intern positions available and each intern will work directly with one of four senior clinicians on a rotating basis. Primary duties will include routine clinical care, anesthesia, intensive care, emergencies, nuclear imaging, some surgical assistance, sports medicine, lameness evaluations and client communication. Ample opportunity for refinement of skills in a variety of areas affords the intern the opportunity to pursue a residency or private practice with a solid foundation of excellent practical experience. The position does not include any primary surgical responsibilities. Living accommodations in the form of a partially furnished house on the clinic grounds are provided. Professional Liability insurance fees will be paid by SLREH. Additionally, a generous medical insurance package is provided by SLREH.

Prerequisites of Application and Internship are:
   DVM or equivalent degree
   Resumé or CV
   Three letters of recommendation
   CA license (regular or Temporary/Intern)

Externship Programs
The externs work closely with our intern staff with patient care and assisting the clinical staff. Externs will also be involved with the clinical rounds. Additional responsibilities may be given to you based on your skill level. They are scheduled for at least two weeks, but no more than four weeks. During your stay, you will be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A room, shower and cooking facilities are provided for the extern. Liability insurance is provided by the practice. Extern is responsible for their own medical insurance.

Application requirements:
Attendance and student in good standing at any veterinary college
   Resumé or CV
Three references that are familiar with prospective externs clinical skills
