Dr. Cannon received his DVM degree from Washington State University in 1968 followed by internships at Purdue University and UC Davis. His professional career has included race track practice, resident veterinarian and manager of Thoroughbred farm, acedemia (University of Sydney) and a principal at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital. Practice of veterinary medicine was interrupted by a short stint as a Thoroughbred trainer and a sailing venture to Mexico. In 1999 he attained diplomat status in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Equine Practice). |

Dr. Kemper obtained her veterinary degree from UC Davis in 1985. She then participated in a one-year private internship in Yorba Linda, California. She became board certified in internal medicine after completing a large animal residency at UC Davis. After completing the residency program, Dr. Kemper worked for one year as an emergency veterinarian covering ambulatory practices in L.A., Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. She then returned to UC Davis for one year as an intern faculty member in Large Animal Medicine. Dr. Kemper later worked at Chino Valley Equine Hospital for 2 1/2 years before opening her own medicine referral service in Orange County in 1992. Dr. Kemper is now at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital.

Dr. Valdez obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Baja California. She completed a residency in Equine Medicine and Surgery (ABVP) and an additional year of training in Equine Surgery at UC Davis. Dr. Valdez joined San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in September 2005 as an Emergency Clinician. She has also recently attained diplomate status in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Equine Practice). |

After having graduated from the University of Florida with an MS and DVM in 1981, Dr. Richardson completed an internship and equine surgical residency-training program at UC Davis in 1985. Two years of working on the Thoroughbred race tracks in Southern California familiarized him with the area enough to lead to starting a surgery and sports medicine referral practice in the Del Mar area. In the spring of 2008 he began seeing horses as part of the veterinary staff at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital. |

Graduated from Ross University in January 2007 after finishing her clinical year at The University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. She moved from Baraboo, WI to pursue a one-year internship with San Luis Rey Equine Hospital and was hired as an associate following her completed internship in July 2008.
Dr. Wilson’s professional interests include anesthesiology, medical and surgical colic therapy, emergency and critical care, and neonatal care.
Laura was married last year and enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Dr. Douglas Johannessen on weekend camping, hiking, and rock climbing trips as well as spending quality time with their Kittitian dog “Logan”. |

A certified equine dental technician from UC Davis, joins forces with Dr. Jonathan Hirsch to diagnose and treat horses with disorders of the teeth, mouth, or sinuses. Routine and advanced dental procedures including floating of cheek teeth to remove sharp points, reduction of overgrown teeth to balance the mouth, periodontal prophylaxis, restorations, and tooth extractions are performed. SLREH schedules a Dental Day on a monthly basis. |

Dr. Mangan completed his veterinary degree with honors at Colorado State University in 2003. He then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Cornell University Hospital for Animals. Following the internship, Dr. Mangan returned to Colorado State University to complete a residency in comparative veterinary ophthalmology. As part of residency training Dr. Mangan performed glaucoma research, and published related research articles and several case reports. During the residency he developed a special interest in ocular diseases and surgery of the horse. As a board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Mangan has created a practice that is devoted to equine ophthalmology. | |
