"As we work to qualify for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto for Dressage, I like to use acupuncture roughly every two weeks on the boys I ride (Landor and Fine & Smart) and train (Treffer and Di Scansano, rider Wendy Christoff). They're being ridden about 5-6 times a week and I can tell an immediate difference after our acupuncture session. Under saddle they move better, they're looser to ride, and they take less time to warm up. It's a part of my routine to physically feel their muscles before and after rides, and I love that I can literally feel relief in their muscles after acupuncture. I use Dr. Korin Potenza of San Luis Rey Equine Hospital because of her thoroughness and the attention she gives to each horses' comfort and health."

"I am so grateful that my equine vet recommended Dr. Huggons when my horse, Dudley, experienced a strangulating lipoma. Dr. Huggons saved Dudley's life. San Luis Rey Equine Hospital is a very clean and organized facility. Dudley was at SLREH for 14 days. I visited him 10 of the 14 days. His stall was always immaculate and so was he. The technicians, staff, and interns were wonderful and so considerate. Dr. Huggons called me every morning with an update on Dudley's condition.
The 13th of September will be the 3rd anniversary of Dudley's surgery. He is doing great. Some of my friends can not believe that he looks so good and is completely normal. He does look great for a 22-year old.
Thank you Dr. Huggons and everyone at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital."

"Thank you to Dr. Huggons and the whole SLREH team for taking care of the chip in Cleo's left hind fetlock a few months ago. She received amazing care and is now back under saddle! Great facility and great people who truly care about each horse as if it were their own!"

"I won't send my horse anywhere else in the future! I felt confident that he was getting the best medical care possible and always had great communication with the doctors and staff. I have since received two follow up calls from Dr. Potenza herself which I really appreciated."
Angie Ziegler
"Your staff as well as the consultants from the Eye Clinic for Animals did an absolutely outstanding job for our colt. This prevented the certain loss of his eye and helped to assure that he will mature to be the outstanding show horse he has promised to be since birth. Thank you so much!"

"Thank you so much for the loving care you gave to my horse and I, during this difficult time. I hope I can assist in any fund raisers you may hold in the future, to be sure others can receive the care and educational advice that I received. You guys are Great!"

"For me, I was delighted with Dr. Huggons care for both of my horses and bringing in Dr. Latson for Logie was wonderful. It spoke great, positive things to me that Dr. Huggons was able to collaborate with Dr. Latson and use their combined experience to help my horse."
Dana Butler
"I appreciate that my future plans for a horse and my opinion of their care is taken into consideration every time I bring a horse to SLREH. Dr. Potenza is very reasonable with her recommendations of services and I never feel like she's making big deals out of little things. I wish you could have seen Shady when I first bought him...he's much happier now and he's performing at his best."
Cody Bray
"I appreciate all the love and care you have given Ivan during his visits with you. I am so thankful he was able to avoid surgery and appreciate your watchful waiting attitude toward his potential need for surgery. I feel some places might have needlessly rushed him off to surgery. I feel you have Ivan's best interest at heart and sometimes that means waiting to see if a condition resolves on its own. Love you guys for that!"

"Thank you so very much for seeing our dear Whiskey after-hours and treating him like royalty! He may just be a backyard trail horse but he's my baby and he was treated as well as any high-end eventer or racehorse would be treated. Dr Huggons took his time explaining everything, didn't rush us even at 10pm on a Friday night for a non-emergency case, and the supporting staff were so nice and accommodating. We look forward to coming back for Whiskeys 30-day follow up in early March. Thank you again so much!"

"We thought everyone at SLREH was very professional and welcoming. Tasha in the front office was fantastic in getting us in to see the doctors. She was extremely helpful and kept us calm while we were waiting for the diagnosis - not as easy task when you have a sick horse! Dr. Potenza is fabulous. She has a very confident aura about her and I just knew when we met her that she would figure this out. I knew we were in the right place and that she would leave no stone unturned. I was extremely impressed that there were at least three doctors and a handful of interns studying Wyatt. They discussed his condition with each other and put me at ease to see a lot of eyes and minds working on him. We felt the exam was thorough and the diagnosis well thought out and more importantly we didn't feel like anyone was rushing to get on to the next patient - everyone took their time. The hospital was quiet, peaceful and well maintained. Our experience was great and we we're just so relieved at the outcome."

"Remi is my baby. She is a beautiful palomino that I had only a few months when she came up lame. My regular vet took some x-rays, told me that she had the beginnings of ringbone and that she would need a few months rest and then he would come re-evaluate her. I gave her the needed rest, she was seen by the vet again a few months later and this time he told me that she would need to be put out to pasture and never ridden again. After his initial diagnosis, I did some reading about ringbone diagnosis and outcomes. The diagnostic process that I had read about entailed a secondary set of x-rays at the re-evaluation to determine rate of growth so that a treatment plan could be put in place. When my vet told me to put her to pasture, he had not taken this second set of x-rays. He had just made her move for him. Due to this I wanted a second opinion and a friend told me about San Luis Rey Equine Hospital. I made an appointment with Dr. Potenza and it was the best thing for Remi! Remi didn’t actually have ring bone at all. She had a navicular problem. With an infusion of Tildrin and corrective shoeing, my little girl is completely sound and – more importantly – not in pain!"

"There are no words for me to explain about the experience at San Luis Rey. We all thought that Sebastian's dressage career was over. A young rescue horse whoworked his way up to the Champion Level One - Junior Young RIder and Fourth Place Champion is the State of California came to a stand still...and no other vet could figure out why. At a young 9 year old, something wasn't right with his performance as he appeared to be in pain. We took him ever where...no one could figure it out, until Dr. Korin Potenza took over his case. She was AMAZING. When she first looked at him...he was a bit of a mystery, but instead of throwing useless diagnoses at us, she asked to me leave him so she could brain storm what was wrong. The staff and the assistants were amazing. They cared deeply for him and only wanted the best. Korin was in constant contact with me all hours of the day and night; needless to say, she figured out what was wrong with him and diagnosed him. Thanks to Korin, Sebastian is back on his feet...training to show again and PAIN FREE.
There is not enough words to express how Shelby Kearns and I feel about this facility. If you take your horse anywhere else, you are wasting your money. Don't do what I did....go to the best equine hospital from the beginning. They have state of the art equipment, and a new CT machine. They have an amazing facility with highly trained assistants and interns that watch these horse 24/7. Your are the best Korin...LOVE YOU!!!"

"Snickers is a yearling miniature horse that I’ve had (along with her dam) since she was 3 weeks old. During morning feeding she wasn’t feeling well and my regular vet was at the barn anyway, so I had him look at Snickers. I was told that she had some sand in her gut and to give her some Banamine paste and she’d be just fine. A few hours later, she was worse and so she was given a dose of injectable Banamine. When that dose wore off, she was worse still, so I had the emergency vet come out and he gave her some additional meds and told me that if she was not better in 4 hours that she would need to go to the hospital. Four hours later, Snickers was rolling again so we trailered her up and took her to San Luis Rey Equine Hospital. I had been told by a horse trainer friend of mine that Snickers was most likely not going to survive and that the hospital wouldn’t be able to do anything for her. I took her anyway. Dr. Potenza and her team were phenomenal! Snickers stayed and SLREH from Monday night to Saturday afternoon, but she survived – without having to have colic surgery!
To me, my horses are just as close family members as the dogs or cats and I want nothing but the best care for them. I trust SLREH implicitly with any of my horses. They always get the best, most comprehensive care and I’m always kept informed! I get a call each day to tell me how my horse is doing and the next treatment steps are outlined. I’m always given the opportunity to ask questions and be heard….and I can visit my horse to see for myself that they are getting better!
I can’t say enough about SLREH and their team! I would highly recommend them to anyone with horses!"

"I'm so fortunate and thankful for Dr. Korin Potenza, Dr. Nick Huggons and the SLREH team for saving Candy, who underwent emergency Colic surgery on March 1st, 2014. Their ability to explain exactly what was happening and their sincere compassion helped me know that Candy was getting the best care possible. Candy jumped through many hoops during her stay at SLREH and I know she was in the hands of the greatest, most educated veterinarians who put pride into their work.
Even after Candy returned home, Dr. Potenza and Dr. Nick Huggons wanted updates on how she was doing and her progress. Once all of Candys colic and pneumonia was cleared, I continued to have her visit SLREH, Dr Potenza and Dr Huggons on a regular bases for her routine maintenance and sports medicine needs. They go above and beyond and have treated Candy like their own. With all their help, support, time and outpouring generosity, Candy got to return back to the game she loved the most, 3-Day Eventing, after a very long road to recovery.
Dr Potenza and Dr Huggons were a huge help in both mine and Candys long journey to the Advanced level of 3-Day Eventing. This past June (2015) Candy and I competed and won our first Advanced - it was truly a fairy tale - which Candy much deserved.
Unfortunately, Candy suffered a tragic pasture accident in late August (2015) that resulted in a spiral fracture to her left front radius. We talked about options, but the best thing for Candy was to have her euthanized. I was on the opposite side of the country when this happened, but because of Dr Potenza and Dr Huggons's care and compassion for Candy, they drove out to my barn to say goodbye to her for me and be with her in her last moments...it meant the world to me. Candy was my partner in crime, my horse of a life time, and my best friend.
I met Dr Korin Potenza and Dr Nick Huggons durning really unfortunate circumstances, but I'm blessed that our paths have crossed and to have them be a huge part of my life.
They are my superheroes.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Potenza and Dr. Huggons for everything that they have done and continue to do."
