Interns

Elizabeth Herrera, DVM

Liz grew up in Sacramento with all kinds of animals (dogs, cats, lizards, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.) but she credits her godmother for her love of horses. She started riding when she was 9 years old and often accompanied her godmother to local shows during the summer all the way through college. Liz earned her Bachelor's degree in Animal Science with an emphasis on physiology from UC Davis.

Liz stayed in Davis and received her veterinary degree in May 2021. She developed a strong interest in emergency surgery, especially in colic evaluation and management and laceration repair. She also has a budding interest in internal medicine. Outside of veterinary medicine, Liz enjoys spending time at the beach, working on her many crochet projects, and hanging out with her family.

Tomas Gibert, MV

Tomas joins us from Argentina, where he grew up playing polo. He received his first degree in Biology, then later graduated from National University of La Plata with a Master of Veterinary Science. Shortly after receiving his degree, Tomas worked in Buenos Aires at an embryo transfer center for polo ponies and also took care of the mares/foals during foaling season. He went on to work as a polo club veterinarian traveling to Italy and Thailand. Along with a love for traveling, he also enjoys surfing and photography in his free time.

Julie Corral, DVM

Julie is a Southern California native who grew up on the backside watching her father ride at Santa Anita Racetrack and Hollywood Park. She developed an interest in racetrack medicine, and shadowed multiple racetrack veterinarians throughout her high school and undergraduate degree. She received her Bachelor’s degree from UC Davis and went on to complete her veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania. During veterinary school, she worked in the vet box at Fair Hill International and Plantation Fields and was a drug tester at local steeplechase events. Her primary interests include equine surgery and sports medicine as well as canine sports medicine.

Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending her time cooking, riding her horse, training her dog, and going to the beach.
